NATURAL RESERVE OF THE BELICE RIVER

The natural reserve has been established on March 14, 1984. This is a territorial extension of approximately 130 acres known as Area A (reserve) to which it has been added 140 hectares classified as Zone B, as an area of particularly interesting.An important element is the Belice river by that flows to the sea. This natural reserve was established to promote the conservation and recovery of dunali formations, flora and fauna typical of sandy environments.
It comprises various atmospheres: the dunes, the foce of the riverwith the typical swampy vegetation and, in the inner part, theMediterranean spot sempreverde.
The dunes that appear low and ondulated characterize the wide beach.Whereas because of the thermal excursion between night and day, only some species of vegetables succeed and adapt themeselves in difficult conditions.
Most part of the plants you will find are herbaceous: Cakile marittima, Eringium maritimum, Pancratium maritimum, Santolina chamaecyperissus, Medicago marina, Tamarix gallica, Urginea maritima.

Always in this zone, it nests and it places its eggs the marine Turtle(Caretta caretta). The river, like every humid atmosphere,accommodates a typical vegetation of the swampy zones. There are also bushes of Giunco, Lisca and Typha latifolia, while swampy Cannuccia, Zigoli and Lariciare are diffused along the river.
This water mirror hosts different plants such as: Fratino, the Folaghe, the Gallinella of water,the Beccamoscino and the Cannaiola. You will also find migratory birds: Anatidi, Aironi, Trampolieri, Gulls,marine Ghiandaia, Martin pescatore.The fauna is constituted of invertebrates as Molluschi bivalvi and some Rectums like the Ramarro, the Lucertola and the Biwake.
